Disturbing Images in the Raggedy Ann View-Masters

Filed under: View Masters — Kim @ 6:21 am

The 1971 Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy View-Masters featured the work of diorama veteran Lelia Heath Pearson, who illustrated three stories written by the characters’ creator, Johnny Gruelle.

In “Raggedy Ann Learns a Lesson,” our beloved heroine convinces other dolls to escape their room and to wreck the kitchen. In “Raggedy Andy Arrives,” they all bust out into the garden and get themselves severely damaged. And in “Doctor Raggedy Andy,” devious experiments on another unsuspecting doll lead to eye damage and a broken skull.

My own set of these View-Master reels (thanks, perhaps, to some raggedy vandal in my own home), had been left out in the sun. They now have an even more disturbing red tint.
