I’m a musician, writer and radio host who lives in Austin, Texas. My latest recording is a fingerstyle guitar EP of Tex Mex accordion songs, and I wrote a book called Early ’70s Radio: The American Format Revolution (Continuum, 2011). I consulted on Lex Gillespie’s rockabilly radio documentary Whole Lotta Shakin’, which won a Peabody Award, and have worked as an Austin disk jockey. I’ve hosted radio shows at Austin’s KUTX (“Folkways”) and KOOP, where I did a show called “The International Folk Bazaar” for several years but now host “Around the Town Sounds” a few times a month. I started this blog in 2006 so I could make little free-form observations and connections (“boneyard” – get it?) about records and things of no specific genre. What started out as an amusing diversion with a title I didn’t think too hard about has ended up forging a number of friendships and rewarding correspondences, so onward I go. All posts on Boneyard Media, unless noted otherwise, are written by me.
